LIBERTY LIFTER

The Liberty Lifter is a DARPA seaplane concept for the US Navy that will combine the fast and agile strategic transport of very large and heavy payloads (over 100 tons) with the ability to take off and land in water. It is assumed that the cost of production of such aircraft will not be large.
The dual-hulled aircraft would not require a runway and will use the wing-in-ground effect, a concept used by Soviet aerospace engineers in the 1980s. An example of the successful creation of such ground-effect vehicles is the world-famous Soviet Lun-class ekranoplan.
